5 Back to School Stress Busters
School is back in session, and that means parents are back to running 100 different directions. The house is still in chaos from summer water balloon fights in the kitchen, mudroom dysfunction with pool bags where backpacks belong, and sports equipment without a home.
If this describes your home sweet home, these five stress busters will make your days and your nights a little more peaceful.
1. Centralized Command Center
Creating a space for the family calendar, and an In-Out box system for all the papers that come home to be signed. Our family runs in different circles depending on the season, so a family calendar is a must! This one piece is not only written but also on all our phone calendars in different colors for each family member. Keep extra items like sticky notes and pens at close reach for easy communication.
2. Cubbies for Backpacks
Most newly built homes are equipped with some form of formal or informal mudroom function. This small room meant to hold wet shoes is the perfect spot for your Centralized Command Center and backpacks. Now, the organization of the day’s work becomes one fluid action. Take off shoes, bags and unload the day’s paperwork. Training the children is another story! No, formal mudroom no worries use a wall in your laundry room to create a dual-function space in your home.
3. Homework Station
Today’s students tend to do homework at the kitchen table, but if they prefer as mine do to have a quiet place to study creating a homework station in their bedroom or another free space can be a stress buster. Key to this area being a high function area is that everything they may need is present including pens, protractors, and a phone charger. Hopefully, they do their homework and don’t Snapchat, maybe not the phone charger!
4. Sports Racket
Multiple sports for multiple kids and adults alike make equipment storage an ultimate stressor. You know the days you’re yelling at the children to get in the car with all their gear, and you can’t find the gear! For us, lockers will become our sports station, with each locker holding a child’s gear for the season. I suppose the husband may need one too, for his golf clubs.
5. Self Serve Lunch Station
Eliminate frantic mornings with this lunch station made to keep life simple. Place lunch box staples altogether one set cold for the fridge, and one set dry staples for the pantry. May not be the healthiest of snacks for the lunchbox but who can pass up OSU Football gummies, not this mamma!
Have a smarter school year with these stress busters and remember they will survive we did, and we didn’t have an app for that.
Live Inspired! Inspired to fly, with a well organized family and home.
