What is it about Valentine’s Day, one day a year that makes us all so giddy!??! I must admit I LOVE VDAY, what am I saying I love all holidays any reason to pull colors, China, sweets, and fine linen.
Valentine’s Color Love
One thing I enjoy about designing and styling any space is the effect said space has on our senses. How color can exude confidence, yet elicit the emotion of love. Does the color pink remind you of playing Barbie’s driving that hot pink Corvette to the nearest runway? The color pink is one of my favorite colors to layer she plays well with an assortment of primary and secondary colors.
This Valentine’s day I wanted a monochromatic palette with high saturation of pink and a combination of patterns from floral, tone on tone Damascus, stripes, leopard, and my backdrop of inspired to fly, feathers.
Mixing pattern for clients is a big part of what I do and for most the hardest for clients to embrace. Pattern play is always an individual preference. A design will flow mixing small to large scale patterns with florals and stripes help make an attractive space.
I have on hand a collection of fabrics, and it’s an obsession I never pass up a great textile! I used the Damascus fabric to cover my sofa table, a great interchangeable piece, for our fondue bar.
For our dessert table, I wanted it to be fun and playful. I used the floral pattern on the chipboard arrows and hearts mixed with stripes to show off the diversity of color play.
The arrows and hearts I Mod Podge with pattern paper to create some whimsy.
The cute dessert plates I picked up at my local Michaels, each one says something sweet and adds another pattern of playful dots.
For the simple flowers the rule of threes, same color same height vases won’t compete with one another leaving space for my heart shaped cakes from Trader Joes placed on an upside down crystal candle stick.
Mixing food and florals is fun if you have access to non-toxic organic edible flowers from your florist. Edible florals would be a beautiful addition on a simple store bought cake.
This inspired palette came from my trip to Italy this summer. The way color is infused throughout the sophisticated design, yet comfortable warmth and simplicity.
The Zebra below was outside a flower shop in Capri.
The entire island of Capri is invigorated with bright hues of pink. The bougainvillea vine flowers that grow cheerfully throughout the region.
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! Hope you’re inspired to fly with color and love this Valentine’s Day!
